Community service

For my Phycology class it was required to get 10 hours of comunity service, so i decided to see if Garden City arts would alow me to volenteer there. so for a week or two i cam into thier gallery and painted this and another photo op for theri upcomming Art in the park event that summer.

It felt like i found a irl cheat code becuse I get to make art and complete my community service hours at the same time. GCA already had the panels ready Once i got the dimentions i recived some recomened artists to have depicted, I could have gon with munch or van goough, but

I went with artists ive never heard of at the time. I thought is was important to represent somone who wasnt an white old man. So that were I found R.C. Gorman, who was a navajo artist who made the beutiful paints of navajo women. I combine two of his works, La SOMTHING on the left and La Chilera on the right. and i simply just recreated them to the best of my ability.

For this project i had to use material provided to me fom the gallery so i used acrylic paint instead of my usual oil paint, and it wast the bedt quality paint so it was a bit of a struggle to get the colors right. but in the end i think it turned out pretty good.

the main thing that i loved was i was painting during the opening of a show in the gallery. so i had people who were here fo a gallery show also see me paintong this esentually small mural of rc gorman. and somone Came by and talked to me and just told me she was peronally knew rc gorman and how much his work meant to her. it was a really cool experince to connect with someone over art.
