Beaty Rd Gas Station

This drawing began as a landscape assignment for my Advanced Drawing class. The prompt was simple: choose a local place that meant something to you and study it closely.

I chose the gas station on Beaty Road, a small building on the edge of town that carries the feeling of everyday life in Southwest Kansas. It is not a grand landmark. It is quiet, worn, and familiar. That is what made it worth drawing.

Oil pastel felt right for this piece because the material can hold both structure and grit. I wanted the surface to reflect the place itself: direct, weathered, and ordinary in a way that still feels specific.
